Part 2: When Loss Leads You to Self-Discovery

Like many, the events of 2020 completely blindsided me!

I kept thinking that there was no way this was happening. There was no way that the world was literally shutting down and that we were being told to stay home —indefinitely. The whole thing never sat right with me from the start…

In the beginning, my motivation was still intact. I got up every day trying to maintain a normal life for myself and my family. But, after months passed and we couldn’t do normal things like get haircuts, leave the house for work or school or even go to the California beaches without the threat of severe fines, I started to get depressed.

I knew I was going to have to work very hard to nurture my mental health and keep my kids, mentally healthy and strong…

I started getting up before my household got moving in the morning to pray & journal, create a healthy breakfast & get my diffusers going.

I created a vision board that had four very specific categories: Everything centered around faith, family, building deeper friendships & preserving our freedom…

After months of reflection that ultimately culminated in a 40 day prayer challenge, I heard God say it was time to move our family to higher ground—and He was very clear that Milton, Georgia was the place.

So, in 2021, after having lived in the same state for 23 years, my husband and I took a giant leap of faith, moving our four teenagers and two big rescue dogs across country to our new home, an hour North of Atlanta.

This is what I learned: While it’s important to set goals, be consistent daily to achieve your dreams & utilize the gifts God has given us to help others, I desperately needed to shift from radical discipline to attain my goals to conscious intention about HOW I attained them.

We are not robots! Our short time on earth is meant to be savored. And I believe God wants us to put relationships above all else!

Yes, in my pre-2020 life, I was doing good work helping people with their health, spending time with my God, family and friends —but it was almost like I was scheduling them in —not centering the rest of my life AROUND them.

Now, I can’t totally re-wire who I am. I will always be a high-achieving person with big dreams and big goals. I can still be disciplined, but it looks a lot different when you put God & family in the center. That’s called Alignment! And when you’re aligned, it’s the definition of truly achieving balance in your life!

So how do you DO that? How do you achieve balance?

Tomorrow I will start sharing tips to lead you on the path of self discovery so that you can truly find balance, peace & joy…
